Zelenskyy, Macron discuss energy moratorium ahead of Trump meeting

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy met French President Emmanuel Macron in New York late Monday, Sept. 21.

According to Kyiv Post, the meeting came hours after Macron met US President Donald Trump, where he pushed for faster defensive weapons for Ukraine and discussed a possible moratorium on energy strikes.

“In-depth discussion this evening with President Zelenskyy,” Macron said on X. “Russian strikes on Ukrainian energy infrastructure threaten to deprive millions of families of heating and electricity. France will stand with Ukraine to face the winter, and the G7 Energy Group will also be mobilized to support it. We are strengthening its air defenses with the signing of a contract for the delivery of radars, as well as the provision of interceptors. I also discussed this support with President Trump, as well as the prospect of an energy truce and a moratorium in the Black Sea, which we support. This will be a key issue in the negotiations that must resume and lead to a just and lasting peace.”
