MP Vilen Gabrielyan, a member of Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract party and chair of the National Assembly’s Defense and Security Committee, has announced plans to create a pool of Armenian and Diaspora security experts to advise on national security issues.
In a Facebook post, Gabrielyan addressed security specialists, experts, researchers and representatives of relevant professional organizations in Armenia and the Diaspora on behalf of the parliamentary Committee on Defense and Security.
“On behalf of the Committee on Defense and Security of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, I appeal to specialists, experts, researchers in the security sector and representatives of relevant professional organizations in the Republic of Armenia and the Diaspora.
The multilayered and changing nature of the security challenges facing Armenia requires not only the effective work of state institutions, but also the consolidation, development and targeted engagement of the professional and expert potential available in the country and the Diaspora.
For this purpose, we plan to establish a security-sector expert pool that will make it possible to bring together, on a single platform, Armenian and Diaspora specialists from various fields, regardless of their political views, party affiliation or political preferences.
Our primary goal is to create a professional environment where professional knowledge, experience, evidence-based approaches and the security interests of the Republic of Armenia prevail.
Alongside the formation of the expert pool, we plan to establish thematic working groups in the near future that will deal with specific areas of the security sector, discuss existing problems and possible solutions, develop recommendations and, when necessary, present relevant professional assessments and initiatives.
We value both the experience available within the state system and the knowledge and experience of specialists working in academic, scientific research, private and international organizations. It is also important to engage the professional potential of the Diaspora, taking into account the experience accumulated in different countries, professional qualifications and knowledge available in the security sector.
This initiative is open to all specialists who are ready to contribute their knowledge and experience to strengthening Armenia’s security capabilities.
I am convinced that through professional and constructive dialogue that rises above political differences, it is possible to develop expert potential that will contribute to the continuous development and increased effectiveness of the security policy of the Republic of Armenia.
I call on Armenian and Diaspora specialists in the security sector to join this initiative, present their professional experience and willingness to become involved in further work.
Our common goal is one: to bring together existing knowledge and experience and put them at the service of the security of the Republic of Armenia,” the lawmaker said.
