U.S. President Donald Trump said in an interview with CNBC that he had congratulated entrepreneur Elon Musk on becoming a trillionaire.

Trump said he had not spoken with Musk directly but had sent him a note.

"I wrote to him, 'Congratulations. That's great,'" Trump said.

He added that he has a very good relationship with Musk, although the two had disagreements after the administration rejected a proposal that would have effectively required all Americans to switch to electric vehicles.

"Elon wasn't thrilled about that. And I can understand it. But he's doing well," Trump said.

Musk, the world's richest person, became the world's first trillionaire on June 12 following the initial public offering (IPO) of his aerospace company SpaceX. The offering involved 555.6 million shares and valued the company at $2 trillion.

However, on June 24, Musk lost his trillionaire status after a decline in the value of SpaceX shares. According to the latest data from the Bloomberg Billionaires Index, his net worth stood at $992 billion as of July 3.

According to Forbes, Musk's net worth reached $342 billion in 2025, compared with $195 billion in 2024.
