The coordinator of the Hayakve movement, Avetik Chalabyan, who is accused of allegedly plotting an election interference scheme involving foreign government officials, was remanded in custody after being arrested earlier on Wednesday, his lawyer, Varazdat Harutyunyan, said.
The court placed Chalabyan in pre-trial detention for a period of two months.
The lawyer argued that the motion filed by investigators with the court was insufficient to justify Chalabyan's detention and that he should have been released.
Harutyunyan said the court has barred Chalabyan from receiving visitors in prison, except for his lawyers. Chalabyan has denied any wrongdoing.
