Pashinyan, von der Leyen discuss economic cooperation and EU assistance package

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen discussed during a phone call on June 4 the response to Armenia’s “economic challenges” and the further development of bilateral cooperation, the Prime Minister’s Office said in its readout.

The readout was published shortly after the EU readout.

The European Commission President reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to supporting the strengthening of Armenia’s economic resilience and development programs. She said the EU is preparing a support package that includes over €50 million in immediate financial assistance, as well as additional measures aimed at expanding export opportunities for Armenian products and facilitating trade.

Practical support programs for various sectors, including agriculture and floriculture, were also discussed. In this context, the importance of creating new opportunities for Armenian products in European markets was emphasized.

The parties highlighted the deepening of business ties, the consistent implementation of the agreements reached at the Armenia–EU summit held in Yerevan, and the advancement of the Armenia–EU strategic agenda.

It was noted that EU support under the Resilience and Growth Plan has already contributed to the development of thousands of enterprises and the creation of new jobs in Armenia. Reference was also made to initiatives implemented within the framework of the Armenia–EU Connectivity Partnership.

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen reaffirmed the EU’s readiness to support the development of infrastructure projects and regional connectivity.

The parties agreed to establish a joint Armenia–EU task force to coordinate the implementation of ongoing programs and discuss new areas of cooperation.
