United States Secretary of State Marco Rubio has credited the Trump administration for ending the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In a statement to the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Rubio spoke about the State Department’s engagement across the world and described it as “a history of tremendous successes combined with ongoing and difficult challenges.”
Rubio mentioned Armenia and Azerbaijan while pointing out the conflicts which the Trump administration has helped resolve.
“Armenia and Azerbaijan – that conflict ended. Not only did it end, but it ended with an agreement that I signed the MoU on yesterday, creating a new prosperity route, the TRIPP route, which will provide extraordinary opportunities for both countries, especially for Armenia, while respecting their sovereignty, to really benefit from that,” he said.
The US Secretary of State also mentioned US mediation efforts between India and Pakistan, Thailand and Cambodia, as well as in Gaza, and elsewhere.
Armenia and the United States have formalized the framework agreement on strategic cooperation concerning the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP), which was initialed in Yerevan during Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s visit last week. Armenian FM Ararat Mirzoyan signed the deal on June 4 after Rubio dispatched the document with his signature. The agreement is now ready for the ratification process.
The Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP) is a connectivity project in Armenia envisaged under the U.S.-brokered Armenian-Azerbaijani joint declaration signed in Washington, D.C. The project is expected to unlock strategic economic opportunities, create long-term benefits by promoting infrastructure investment, and enhance regional connectivity. An Armenian-American joint enterprise—the TRIPP Development Company—is expected to develop the route.
