The Washington-based International Republican Institute (IRI) has announced the deployment of election observers to Armenia to monitor the parliamentary elections.
“The International Republican Institute (IRI), a non-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to advancing democracy and freedom globally, is deploying a delegation of international election observers to Yerevan, Armenia from June 3 to 8, 2026, to assess the conduct of the June 7 parliamentary elections,” IRI said in a press release.
This high-level mission, led by National Endowment for Democracy (NED) Chairman and former U.S. Representative Peter Roskam (R-IL), will arrive in Yerevan on June 3 to join IRI’s long-term election observers and meet with a broad range of stakeholders, including election authorities, ruling and opposition political parties, civil society actors, journalists, diplomatic missions, and government institutions involved in election administration and enforcement.
“As the first parliamentary vote since 2017, Armenia’s elections come at a consequential moment for the country’s democratic future,” said Roskam. “Their outcome will not only shape Armenia’s approach to economic and security issues and its relationships with regional and international partners but also have lasting consequences for public confidence in the electoral process.”
The mission will present its preliminary findings at a press conference in Yerevan on June 8. Initial findings and recommendations will build on IRI’s pre-election assessment conducted in April, which evaluated the conditions for credible elections ahead of the June 7 vote. The mission’s final report, which will offer an impartial assessment of the quality and conduct of electoral processes, including thematic findings and recommendations from the pre-election period and Election Day administration, will be released in the weeks following the election.
“Since 1983, IRI has organized more than 270 international election observation missions worldwide, earning a reputation for objectivity and professionalism. The mission will conduct its activities in accordance with the Declaration of Principles for International Election Observation and the Code of Conduct adopted by the United Nations in 2005 and base its findings and recommendations on Armenian laws and international standards for elections. All activities will be conducted on a strictly nonpartisan basis and without interfering in the electoral process,” IRI said.
