Armenia highlights school feeding programme at regional forum

Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan described the “School Feeding” programme as one of the country’s most significant examples of best practice in the fields of social protection and healthy nutrition for children.

Abisoghomonyan delivered opening remarks at a high-level regional event titled “Sustainable Nationalisation of School Feeding in Global and Regional Contexts,” Armenia’s Foreign Ministry said.

The event brought together senior delegations from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan visiting Armenia on a technical study tour, as well as representatives of the Brazil Centre of Excellence against Hunger under the World Food Programme.

In his speech, the deputy foreign minister stressed the importance of organising the visit, highlighting the need to strengthen cooperation and exchange best practices between countries amid global challenges including food insecurity, climate change and supply chain disruptions.

He also underlined the programme’s role in strengthening local communities and developing more resilient food systems.

Abisoghomonyan highly praised cooperation with the Armenian office of the World Food Programme during the development and implementation of the initiative. He added that the programme has also contributed to strengthening national institutional capacities, with the Armenian government currently overseeing its implementation in the country’s regions.
