Environment Minister, Kazakh Ambassador discuss preparations for COP17 conference

Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan received Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Armenia, the Ministry of Environment said in a readout.

Welcoming the ambassador, Minister Matevosyan emphasized the importance of friendly relations between Armenia and Kazakhstan and the continuous development of cooperation based on mutual trust. He reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to expand the bilateral agenda and deepen sectoral partnership.

During the meeting, the parties exchanged views on preparations for the COP17 conference scheduled to be held in Yerevan, highlighting the importance of Kazakhstan’s high-level participation and continued cooperation in this direction.

Particular attention was paid to water sector management issues. The sides discussed approaches aimed at the sustainable management of water resources, as well as coordination of actions within the framework of relevant UN water conventions, taking into account current global environmental priorities.

The ambassador presented Kazakhstan’s initiative to establish an international water organization, outlining its objectives and expected functions. Prospects for cooperation within this framework were also discussed, including experience exchange, development of joint programs, and capacity building.

Minister Matevosyan also presented Armenia’s approaches to water resources management and the measures undertaken to preserve the ecosystem and biodiversity of Lake Sevan, stressing their importance for both environmental protection and socio-economic sustainable development.

The parties additionally touched upon upcoming international conferences and platforms that could serve to continue dialogue and reaffirm cooperation priorities.
