Within the framework of unblocking regional communications, the restoration and modernization of railway infrastructure in Armenia will require an investment of approximately $200–300 million, according to a lawmaker representing the ruling Civil Contract party.
“Those few kilometers of railway must be restored as quickly as possible so that we can offer infrastructure for goods transportation to the world, including Russia, the East, the West, the North, and the South,” MP Arman Yeghoyan, the Chair of the Parliamentary Committee on European Integration Affairs, told reporters.
Yeghoyan noted that the 2–3 kilometer missing section of the Yeraskh railway and a shorter section at Akhurik need reconstruction. In addition, it is planned to modernize the existing railway section of more than 100 kilometers.
According to him, in order to increase speed, the wooden crossties under the rails could be replaced with concrete ones.
“Approximately $200–300 million will be needed for all of this,” Yeghoyan said.
