Ambassador Paruyr Hovhannisyan, Permanent Representative of Armenia to the UN, met with UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, at an ECOSOC event.
Hovhannisyan earlier participated in the 2026 ECOSOC Ambassadorial Retreat, which discussed the current challenges to the multilateral system and the sustainable development agenda.
“I was honored to meet with the UN Secretary-General, António Guterres, together with fellow members of the Economic and Social Council Bureau. Our exchange focused on the Council’s work and its growing relevance in today’s complex global environment, particularly as ECOSOC marks its 80th anniversary,” the Armenian envoy said in a statement on social media.
“I emphasized the importance of effective coordination that delivers concrete results on the ground, the role of biodiversity in advancing sustainable development, and the specific needs of countries in special situations, including landlocked countries and middle-income countries. We also discussed how ECOSOC can further strengthen its direction-setting role and better mobilize the UN system through greater coherence, accountability and impact, in support of Member States’ priorities,” he added.
