Ex-servicemember’s claims about ‘incursion attempt’ are fake news, says defense ministry

The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied a claim made by a former servicemember regarding an “incursion attempt” that allegedly occurred on 7–8 December in the direction of a military base in Meghri, Syunik province. The claim was made by former Armenian servicemember and reserve colonel Naira Gevorgyan, who also stated in an interview that Armenian troops were "ordered not to open fire" during the alleged "incursion attempt".

Defense Ministry spokesperson Aram Torosyan denied the claim and described it as an "information attack" in the context of hybrid threats.

“The statement made by an individual who, to put it mildly, has ‘distinguished herself’ through an inglorious record of service in the armed forces is not only disinformation, but also yet another unsuccessful and failed attempt at an information attack directed against the Republic of Armenia, its state institutions, and the military.

We call on our media partners to refrain from republishing such fabrications and not to become involved in the reprehensible process of creating hybrid threats around the Republic of Armenia.

At the same time, we believe that the relevant authorities will also examine this statement and consider the possibility of giving it a legal assessment,” Torosyan said.
