Two of several wildfires in Armenia’s northeastern Tavush Province have been contained amid major firefighting efforts, authorities reported on November 27.
The wildfires near the winding roads of Dilijan and the Mountainous Armenia spa had been contained as of 08:00 on November 27, according to the Rescue Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
Another wildfire in an area called Kazachi (grasslands between Tavush and Lori provinces) had also been extinguished, the service added.
As of November 26, firefighters were battling at least four wildfires, mostly raging through grasslands in Tavush Province. Hundreds of firefighter-rescuers, volunteers, and eco-patrol officers, as well as a firefighting-reconnaissance helicopter, were deployed to the area. The popular resort town of Dilijan, as well as other towns and communities in Tavush Province, remained out of danger.
One firefighter was killed, and four others were injured when their service vehicle crashed during the firefighting efforts earlier on November 26.
