The Armenian Ministry of Defense has dismissed as fake news a report claiming that the authorities plan to raise the pension age for military officers and discharge a large number of them in 2026.
The report was originally published by journalist Voskan Sargsyan, who claimed to have obtained information from anonymous Defense Ministry sources regarding the plans. According to the reporter, the purported plan would involve discharging a large number of officers from service. Additionally, the retirement age for officers to become eligible for a pension would be set at 63, whereas currently, officers are entitled to their military pension immediately after completing 20 years of service, regardless of their age.
In response to the report, Defense Ministry spokesperson Aram Torosyan released a statement asserting that the article is fake news.
