Trump envoy reaffirms U.S. support for Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agenda

Armenia’s Ambassador to the United States, Narek Mkrtchyan, met with U.S. Special Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff at the Holocaust Museum, within the framework of an event dedicated to the Sharm El Sheikh Summit for Peace and in commemoration of the second anniversary of the October 7 Hamas attacks against Israel.

The Armenian Embassy said that Ambassador Mkrtchyan and Mr. Witkoff discussed “the progress of the August 8 agreements and regional developments.”

Armenia and Azerbaijan signed a U.S.-brokered joint declaration and initialed a peace treaty on August 8 in Washington. Bilateral Armenia-U.S. cooperation deals were also signed. 

Steve Witkoff reaffirmed the “consistent support of the United States for the peace agenda," the embassy said in a statement.

Ambassador Mkrtchyan expressed his gratitude to Mr. Witkoff for his efforts to promote peace and stability in the region.
