Armenia will host the seventeenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17) in 2026.
The Armenian Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan met with Astrid Schomaker during her visit.
Minister Matevosyan, in a statement on social media, said that COP17 “is a unique opportunity to present Armenia as a responsible partner in the process of shaping the global environmental agenda.”
"I am confident that through joint and consistent efforts, we will host this important event with dignity, once again demonstrating our country’s readiness and capacity to support global environmental initiatives,” the minister said.
Matevosyan said that during the meeting they discussed the organizational progress of the conference, infrastructure and professional preparations, as well as the opportunities that COP17 presents for Armenia as a regional platform for biodiversity conservation and environmental cooperation.
