Armenian Minister of Environment Hambardzum Matevosyan, who is on a working visit to the United Arab Emirates to participate in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) World Conservation Congress, met with UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment Amna bint Abdullah Al Dahak Al Shamsi, Minister Matevosyan said on Facebook.
“We discussed the preparations for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), which will be held in Armenia in 2026. The discussion focused on the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework.
Since the United Arab Emirates successfully hosted the COP28 conference, I considered it important to study and apply their experience in the organizational processes of the upcoming COP17 in Armenia. We are determined to organize COP17 at a high level,” he said.
"In addition, the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Armenia and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment of the UAE already have a memorandum of cooperation, within the framework of which a number of initiatives are being implemented aimed at combating climate change, preserving biodiversity, improving environmental monitoring and impact assessment systems, managing hazardous substances and waste, ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources, and developing ecotourism," reads the post.
The parties agreed to continue their cooperation.
