The Speaker of the Parliament of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, participated in a reception dedicated to the 65th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Cyprus. He delivered a congratulatory message on this occasion.

Below is the transcript of the Speaker’s remarks published by his office.

“Dear Ambassador,
Your Excellencies,
Ladies and Gentlemen,

I extend my heartfelt congratulations on the occasion of the Independence Day—the National Day of the Republic of Cyprus. I wish peace and prosperity to the friendly people of Cyprus. This special day celebrates the sovereignty of your country and the unwavering spirit of the Cypriot people in defending their freedom and democratic aspirations.

Armenia attaches particular importance to its relations with Cyprus.

Over the past decades, Armenia and Cyprus have successfully developed and deepened their inter-state relations. Today, a high-level political dialogue is underway between our two countries, underpinned by a multi-faceted bilateral agenda.

The development of Armenian-Cypriot relations continues on an upward trajectory, as evidenced by high-level mutual visits, reciprocal support on international platforms, and an active political and economic dialogue.

Armenia and Cyprus have always supported each other on various important matters. Cyprus has consistently stood by Armenia during difficult times and expressed solidarity with the Armenian people.

Dear attendees,

Next year, as Cyprus assumes the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, Armenia will host the 8th European Political Community Summit in early May. We should work closely together to advance our shared goals.

We are pleased to note that the opening of resident embassies in both countries marks a significant step forward in our relations. This development will foster further cooperation in sectors such as the economy, high technology, tourism, education, and more.

Parliamentary cooperation between Armenia and Cyprus is also active and cordial. This was demonstrated by the visit of the President of the House of Representatives of Cyprus, Annita Demetriou, and her delegation to Armenia on May 19 of this year, as well as through the ongoing dialogue between our inter-parliamentary committees. Our partnership also extends to multilateral formats, including effective collaboration within international parliamentary assemblies.

We highly value the role of the Armenian community in Cyprus in strengthening the friendship between our peoples.

In conclusion, I would like to reaffirm Armenia’s commitment to continued close cooperation on both bilateral and regional issues.

I am confident that together, we will build a lasting and meaningful partnership.

Please allow me, once again, to warmly congratulate you on the National Day of the Republic of Cyprus.

Long live the Republic of Cyprus!
Long live the Republic of Armenia!”
