Armenian PM meets with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has met with Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O'Flaherty in Strasbourg.

During the meeting, the ongoing reforms in the field of human rights protection in Armenia, the steps aimed at strengthening democratic institutions, as well as the prospects for cooperation between Armenia and the Council of Europe were discussed, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a readout.

PM Nikol Pashinyan lauded the activities of the Commissioner for Human Rights and emphasized Armenia’s readiness to continue close cooperation with the Council of Europe in the areas of strengthening human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

Commissioner for Human Rights Michael O'Flaherty highly appreciated the Armenian government’s commitment to protecting human rights and the consistent steps taken to strengthen democracy, emphasizing that this contributes to the protection of citizens’ fundamental rights and freedoms.

“The parties also discussed possibilities for expanding cooperation, emphasizing the importance of continuous and constructive dialogue between Armenia and the Council of Europe,” according to the readout.
