Armenian Deputy FM meets with UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide

On September 24, in New York, on the sidelines of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, Armenian Deputy Foreign Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan met with UN Under-Secretary-General and Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, Chaloka Beyani.

The meeting was also attended by Mô Bleeker, the UN Special Adviser on the Responsibility to Protect.

The officials commended cooperation established between Armenia and the UN Office on Genocide Prevention and the Responsibility to Protect, the foreign ministry said in a press release.

“The Deputy Foreign Minister emphasized that the prevention agenda remains among key priorities of Armenia, affirming the country’s willingness to maintain active engagement in strengthening early warning and action mechanisms, as well as in advancing international human rights and humanitarian law. In this regard, the resolution on “Prevention of Genocide”, tabled by Armenia, was highlighted as an important step to reinforcing the international agenda on the prevention of genocide and mass atrocities. The sides also touched upon the prospects for cooperation between Armenia and the Office of Special Adviser in the framework of the resolution on the “Tenth anniversary of the International Day of Commemoration and Dignity of the Victims of the Crime of Genocide and of the Prevention of This Crime,” tabled by Armenia and adopted by consensus at the 79th plenary session of the UN General Assembly,” the ministry said.
