Finance Minister reports increase in state debt

Armenia’s state debt as of the first half of the current year stood at over 5.3 trillion drams, or more than 13.8 billion dollars, Finance Minister Vahe Hovhannisyan told lawmakers on Monday.

“In the first half of 2025, the state debt grew by 4.5%, or 7.9% when expressed in US dollars,” he said at a committee hearing.

Expressed in Armenian drams, the government’s debt increased by 4.8%, while the Central Bank’s debt dropped by 2.2%.
Hovhannisyan said the debt portfolio’s risk indicators are within their acceptable limits.
The weighted average interest rate in the first half of 2025 remained at the same level as at the end of 2024, standing at 7.2%.
The domestic debt continues to be higher than the external debt, reaching 52%. The domestic debt accounts for 51%, compared to 49% for the foreign currency debt.
