Date announced for closure of UNICEF office in Azerbaijan

The UNICEF office in Azerbaijan will begin a shutdown of its operations starting on September 3, 2025, according to the Report news agency.

"UNICEF’s operational presence in Azerbaijan will be phased out on 3 September 2025. UNICEF will continue to engage with partners in Azerbaijan through its regional office and headquarters," Iryna Mazur, Regional Communications Chief for UNICEF in Europe and Central Asia said in response to the Azerbaijani Report news agency’s inquiry.

Earlier this year, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov said that Azerbaijan ‘has reconsidered its priorities in cooperation with the UN’ based on ‘the realities of the new era’.
