EU Enlargement Commissioner to visit Armenia

A meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and EU Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos took place in Brussels.

According to a readout issued by the Prime Minister’s Office, Marta Kos welcomed the visit of the delegation led by Nikol Pashinyan and underscored the importance of maintaining consistent and effective dialogue with Armenia. She expressed satisfaction over the completion of discussions on the new Armenia-EU partnership agenda, which is expected to be signed during the upcoming session of the EU-Armenia Partnership Council.

Kos reaffirmed the EU's strong support for Armenia’s ambitious reform agenda and the effective implementation of democratic reforms.

Prime Minister Pashinyan noted that he had productive meetings with European Council President António Costa and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. He expressed hope that the close cooperation between Armenia and the EU would continue to deepen across various areas. The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of EU support for Armenia’s economic diversification, development of transport and infrastructure, expansion of small and medium-sized enterprises, the adoption of EU standards, and other key areas.

The sides also discussed EU-funded programs implemented in Armenia and ways to promote economic cooperation.

Special attention was given to the Armenian Government’s efforts to address the social needs of forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh. Prime Minister Pashinyan stressed the importance of continued support from the international community in this regard.

EU Commissioner Marta Kos announced plans to visit Armenia in the near future to discuss joint programs and initiatives in more detail.
