Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan has released a statement strongly condemning the brawl between lawmakers during a parliament session on July 8.
“Parliament must be a platform for democratic debate, not a battlefield,” she said.
Manasyan called for the establishment of a mechanism investigating the ethics of legislators.
“The formation of proper mechanisms for investigating issues related to ethics of members of parliament is a necessity on the agenda,” she said.
A shouting match and brawl erupted in parliament during debates of the prosecution’s request to strip MP Artur Sargsyan of immunity.
