Strengthening energy independence has always been a priority for the Public Services Regulatory Commission, according to the commission’s chairman, Mesrop Mesropyan.
“As of December 31, 2024, there were 191 small hydro-power plants functioning in Armenia, another 16 were being built. After the completion of the construction of the small hydro-power plants, there will be 207 functioning hydro-power plants with a cumulative capacity of 467 MW,” he said in parliament.
Speaking about the solar energy sector, Mesropyan said 72 solar power stations were functioning, and another 47 are under construction, including the 55MW Masrik-1 solar power station.
The commission issued the operating license for Masrik-1 on May 14.
A total of 119 solar power stations with a cumulative capacity of 577MW will function in Armenia after the new plants are constructed.
