The discussions around the signing of the Armenian-Azerbaijani peace agreement continue, Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan has said.
“Indeed, discussions continue,” he said when asked at a press briefing whether the parties discuss the signing of the deal which was finalized earlier in March.
“I don’t want to speak about it now in order not to disturb the process, but there are discussions and very active discussions,” he added.
On March 13, Armenia and Azerbaijan announced that the negotiations around the peace treaty terms have been successfully concluded. Days later, the Azerbaijani government started a massive disinformation campaign falsely accusing Armenia of firing at its military positions across the border. The accusations have been numerously denied by the Armenian military. Furthermore, the Azerbaijani authorities refused to provide any evidence in support of their accusations. The report on border shootings was also denied by the EU monitoring mission in Armenia. Azerbaijan has also been making preconditions: demanding Armenian constitutional changes by falsely claiming that it contains territorial claims against Azerbaijan, as well as the dissolution of the OSCE Minsk Group.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has numerously reiterated readiness to sign the peace agreement with Azerbaijan as soon as possible.
