The Armenian Genocide is one of the darkest chapters in mankind’s history, Greek Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis said in a statement on the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
“1915 April 24 – 2025 April 24. It’s been 110 years since the official start of the Armenian Genocide. On that day, the majority of the Armenian intellectual and community leaders in Ottoman Constantinople was arrested, tortured and murdered. Hundreds of other Armenians of Constantinople were hanged with them. The Armenian Genocide is one of the darkest chapters in mankind’s history which claimed the lives of 1,5 million Armenians and became the beginning of the exile and suffering of millions others. And yet, 110 years since these horrifying historic events, Turkiye officially continues to stubbornly deny the historical truth. So today, at the point where history and its wounds meet the present and the hopes of the future, we all must honor, remember and defend the memory of our brothers. Today of the Armenians, tomorrow of the Asia Minor, the Pontians and the Cypriots. Because only in this way - with memory and deliberation - do we become a fist against the forgetting or falsification of History,” the Greek Speaker of Parliament said in the statement.
