Armenian official calls for deeper economic ties with Turkmenistan

Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructures David Khudatyan has called for deeper trade-economic ties with Turkmenistan.

Khudatyan made the remarks at the 10th Intergovernmental Commission for Economic Cooperation meeting between Armenia and Turkmenistan.

He said that the current level of the trade-economic ties doesn’t fully reflect the entire potential of the two countries.

Khudatyan said that deepening the Armenian-Turkmen ties and partnership will bring benefits to the peoples of both countries.

“It’s no secret that the current level of the trade-economic ties between the two countries doesn’t reflect the entire potential of the two countries. It is obvious that in this regard the bilateral cooperation hasn’t yet reached the desired level and there is a need for expanding it,” he said.

Trade turnover between the two countries in 2024 stood at 22 million dollars, growing by just 1 million dollars compared to 2023. “We hope that this year the pace of trade turnover development and bilateral trade will be significantly higher,” Khudatyan added, noting that the areas of transportation, energy, IT, science, education, culture, sports and other sectors are promising directions for cooperation.

In his speech he mentioned the Armenian government’s Crossroads of Peace project, a major infrastructure project seeking to develop and modernize several transport and connection routes in the region.

He said the project seeks to create favorable conditions between all sides.
