Armenia is completely ready for normalization with Turkiye, a top official representing Yerevan in the talks has said.
Ruben Rubinyan, the Vice Speaker of the Armenian Parliament and Armenia’s special representative for normalization with Turkiye, told the Turkish NTV that Armenia’s stance has remained unchanged since the beginning of the normalization efforts.
“We expect full normalization of relations with Turkiye, which includes establishment of diplomatic relations and unblocking of Armenia’s land border. Armenia is ready for this without any precondition. Armenia is ready for full normalization, and if Turkiye has such political will too then all of this will proceed very quickly. Armenia is ready for the opening of the border with Turkiye and awaits Turkiye’s step,” Rubinyan said.
He said there is no reason for the two countries not to have diplomatic ties or open borders.
Rubinyan said that so far the most important agreement between the two countries was the deal on opening the land border for citizens of third countries and diplomatic passport holders, which was reached in 2022. “On our side, the Margara checkpoint has been repaired and is ready. We expect our Turkish partners to implement the agreement,” Rubinyan said, recalling that the two countries also agreed to reconstruct the historic bridge located on the border.
The NTV interview with Rubinyan was conducted as part of a media tour organized for Turkish media outlets in Armenia.
