1 person died and 6 others were injured in a house fire in Stepanavan, a town in Armenia’s Lori Province, authorities said Saturday.

The fire took place in a wooden building.

Firefighters had contained the fire as of 11:22 local time.

“Rescuers found 1 body. 6 persons have been hospitalized. 8 fire engines, 40 firefighter-rescuers, as well as special equipment from the Stepanavan municipal office are involved in the firefighting operation.  The firefighting work is still ongoing,” the rescue service said in a press release.

Authorities earlier said that 27 residents were evacuated from the building. The cause of the fire was not reported. The evacuated residents have been accommodated at a hotel.

3 of the 6 injured persons have been transported to a Yerevan hospital for burns treatment. 1 of them is in serious but stable condition.

Lori Governor Aram Ghazaryan told the Armenian Times newspaper that the government has ordered to review the damages and provide relevant assistance to all victims.

“No one will be left [homeless],” he said.

An ongoing 10 billion dram government-funded housing project included the residents of the wooden building which was apparently supposed to be decommissioned.
