The Republic of Armenia doesn’t have territorial demands against any country, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has reiterated.
“We do not have territorial demands against any of our neighbors,” Pashinyan said at a press conference on January 31. “Furthermore, I have publicly said and I am officially saying this once again for the record that the only objective of the Armenian military is the protection and security of Armenia’s sovereign territory. The Armenian military doesn’t and will not have any other objective.”
Pashinyan once again reiterated that Armenia doesn’t plan to militarily restore sovereignty in over 200 square kilometers territory that is presently not under its control after the 2021 Azeri invasion.
He mentioned the ratified delimitation document between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which says that the foundation of the delimitation between the two countries is the Alma-Ata Declaration.
Pashinyan said that if Azerbaijan has concerns or questions about Armenia’s armaments, then Armenia likewise has questions about Azerbaijani armaments. “We have proposed, including in a written format, to create mutual arms control and joint border incident investigation mechanisms. These mechanisms also imply mutual control mechanisms against military activities in border zones. We have officially made this proposal and we are ready to go ahead in this direction,” Pashinyan said.
