Yerevan and Moscow clearly realize the need for sincere dialogue, says Lavrov

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, commenting on bilateral relations with Armenia and the challenges they face, stated that he does not know of any country with which relations can be described as simple.

“I do not know a country with which I would call relations simple,” Lavrov said during a joint press conference with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan.

The Russian Foreign Minister emphasized that in any relationship, there are issues that require resolution. He added that the closer the countries and peoples are, the richer their interaction across various spheres, including political, security, economic, humanitarian, and cultural areas.

“Certainly, there are issues of a political nature that, in my view, have been deliberately exacerbated by certain circles. Both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan have addressed this, including during their recent meetings,” Lavrov said.

Lavrov announced that he and Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan agreed to continue speaking frankly and openly about concerns that Russia has regarding Armenia and Armenia concerning Russia.

He further noted that appropriate steps will be taken to prevent countries that do not wish well for Russia and Armenia from using the media to complicate their normal relations. Lavrov concluded by stating that Yerevan and Moscow remain fully prepared to engage in sincere and open dialogue.
