YEREVAN, DECEMBER 5, ARMENPRESS. Arayik Harutyunyan, the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister’s Office, has attended the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) Congress in Manama, Bahrain, where he is on a visit at the invitation of Faris Mustafa Al Kooheji, the Secretary-General of the Bahrain Olympic Committee.
A document signed during the congress stipulates Armenia’s right to organize and host the 2027 World Weightlifting Championships, as well as the country’s bilateral obligations during the event, the Prime Minister’s Office said in a press release.
In his remarks, Mr. Harutyunyan thanked the IWF President Mohamed Jaloud, IWF General Secretary Antonio Urso, as well as other members of the executive committee for giving Armenia such an opportunity.
Thus, Armenia will become a major sports center in 2027, because the country will host not only the IWF World Championships, but also the La Francophonie Games and the European Gymnastics Championships, and other events. Mr. Harutyunyan invited the participants of the congress to visit Armenia during the tournament days.
