YEREVAN, DECEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS. The Ministry of Internal Affairs has presented to parliament the bill on increasing the fees for applying or renouncing citizenship.
Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs Armen Ghazaryan told lawmakers that the current fees haven’t been changed since 1997.
“We propose to change the current fee for applying for citizenship from 1000 drams to 50,000 drams, and the fee for renouncing citizenship from 25,000 drams to 150,000 drams,” Ghazaryan told lawmakers.
He said they have taken into account international experience, as well as the inflation of the past years and the change of the cost of rendering the services.
In addition to the changes in the fees, the authorities seek to introduce a unified electronic system for citizenship procedures. However, persons seeking to obtain citizenship will still have to pay a one-time, in-person visit to the administrative body.
