YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 27, ARMENPRESS. The spokesperson for Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ani Badalyan, has commented on a statement made by Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov, who said that at Armenia's request, the EAEU summit scheduled for December 25 will be held in St. Petersburg, Russia.

In an interview with Armenpress, commenting Ushakov's statement and addressing the question of why the meeting will not take place in Armenia, Badalyan stated:
"The regulations within the EAEU do not stipulate that the sessions of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council must necessarily be held in the member state presiding over the EAEU's statutory bodies.

According to the procedure for holding sessions of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council, the timing and venue of the next regular session are decided during the preceding session. In this case, during the session held in Moscow on May 8, 2024, the leaders of the member states decided to hold the next regular session in December this year in St. Petersburg."

Earlier, Russian Presidential Aide Yuri Ushakov had announced that the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council meeting would take place on December 25 in St. Petersburg, Russia, chaired by Armenia’s Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, as Armenia holds the EAEU chairmanship in 2024. He noted that the meeting is being organized in Russia at the request of the Armenian side.
