Pashinyan thanks Pope Francis for efforts to achieve release of Armenian POWs

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has met with Pope Francis during his visit to the Vatican.

Thanking His Holiness Pope Francis for the meeting, PM Pashinyan said it is a great honor for him to visit the Apostolic Palace for the first time. The continuous high-level mutual visits attest to the unique interstate relationship between Armenia and the Holy See, PM Pashinyan said according to a readout issued by his office. He added that the appointment of the resident Apostolic Nuncio in Armenia will be a significant progress in the friendly relations.

The Prime Minister underscored Armenia’s full support to the Holy See in advancing the agenda of peace in international platforms and working together in this direction.

PM Pashinyan informed Pope Francis about the latest developments in the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process and reiterated the Armenian government’s commitment to the agenda of peace. He underscored that Armenia is determined to have its share of contribution for peace.

The Prime Minister expressed gratitude for the Holy See’s continual efforts to release the Armenian POWs.

Other issues of mutual interest were also discussed.

After the private conversation, Pope Francis greeted PM Pashinyan’s spouse Anna Hakobyan, their daughter, and the accompanying members of the delegation.
