YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 15, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on Friday bestowed the State Award of the Republic of Armenia for Global Contribution in High-Tech Sphere to Infosys Limited founder Narayana Murthy.

The 14th awarding ceremony of the State Award of the Republic of Armenia for Global Contribution in the High-Tech Sphere was held in the government headquarters in Yerevan. It was attended by executives of leading tech companies, lawmakers and government officials, including Arayik Harutyunyan, the Chief of Staff of the Prime Minister’s Office, Hakob Arshakyan, the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Central Bank Governor Martin Galstyan, Synopsys Armenia President Yervant Zorian and Synopsys Armenia Director and Chairman of the Awarding Commission of the Annual IT Educational Awards Hovik Musaelyan.

Pashinyan congratulated Narayana Murthy on receiving the award. The Armenian Prime Minister said the award is an homage to individuals who have made revolutionary contributions in the development of the technological sector.

“But I think this awarding ceremony is significant also for Armenia. Why? Because I think this award changes our viewpoint of the world, and changes the world’s viewpoint of Armenia. This is important in the logic that we not only expect appreciation, sympathy and empathy from the world, but we ourselves can express our appreciation and sympathy with this kind of significant and valuable awarding ceremony,” the PM said.

Pashinyan said that the laureates of the award, including Mr. Murthy, are rightly described as ‘tech giants”, and the awarding ceremony is a testament to it.

In the context of the awarding ceremony, Pashinyan said, the laureates’ biography must be highlighted to the public. “The most crucial specificity is that they, pardon me, were not born as giants, but became giants, they became people who’ve made breakthrough contributions. Of course, I assume that the Almighty had a concrete destiny and plan for their life and activities, but it is obvious that without work, without education, we must admit it is obvious that without failures these successes wouldn’t have been possible. Why am I attaching importance to this? I hope that we are able to use the occasion of this awarding ceremony and the presence of the laureates to present the life story of our distinguished laureates particularly to our young people, our students,” Pashinyan said, adding that the life story of each laureate has great energy and potential to convey inspiration.

One of the motives for organizing the event is to express appreciation and praise to the work of the laureates. “We believe that drawing attention on the path of life of these individuals can be useful for young people not only in Armenia but in any country of the world, who can be inspired by their example. Of course, our laureates, in this case distinguished Mr. Murthy, is honoring with his presence all of us, the Republic of Armenia, and with this official ceremony we are honoring the achievements and contributions of our laureates, in this case, those of distinguished Mr. Murthy. Esteemed Mr. Murthy, once again accept the assurance of our highest consideration and our appreciation for your path, your contribution and global impact in the technological sector,” Pashinyan said.

Narayana Murthy thanked the Prime Minister for the praise and said that he is honored to receive the Republic of Armenia state award.
