YEREVAN, OCTOBER 15, ARMENPRESS. Armenian Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan met with Martin Chungong, the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, on October 15. The parties discussed the details regarding the cancellation of the meeting between the speakers of the parliaments of Armenia and Azerbaijan, the press service of the Parliament has said in a statement.
Mr. Chungong noted that the Azerbaijani side does not consider the window for contacts to be closed. In response, the Armenian Parliament Speaker stated that despite having three days of contacts with his Azerbaijani counterpart during the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly held in Dushanbe prior to his visit to Geneva, the latter did not indicate in any way that the meeting would be canceled. The Armenian side learned about the cancellation only after arriving in Geneva, from the secretariat of the organization.
According to the source, Parliament Speaker Simonyan reaffirmed the Armenian side's readiness to continue the dialogue, prepare the parliaments and societies of the two countries for peace, and take concrete steps to strengthen it, all aimed at building mutual trust.
