CoE Department for Execution of Judgments of ECHR delegation visits Armenia

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 6, ARMENPRESS. A delegation of the Council of Europe Directorate General of Human Rights and Rule of Law, Department for the Execution of Judgments of the ECHR visited Armenia on September 4-5.

The delegation was led by Clare Ovey, Head of the Department for the Execution of the Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights.

The CoE officials were hosted at the Office of the Representative on International Legal Affairs of Armenia.

“The purpose of the visit was to discuss the course of implementation of the ECHR judgements and decisions regarding Armenia, and the work in this direction,” the Office of the Representative on International Legal Affairs said in a statement.

The CoE delegation had meetings with members of an interdepartmental commission coordinating the execution of the judgments of the ECHR, namely with bodies of the executive government, the General Prosecution, the Investigative Committee, the Human Rights Defender, as well as members of the judiciary.

The systemic reforms in the criminal justice system, ensuring human rights in the military, as well as other reforms in the police, correctional department and other areas were also discussed.

The delegation praised the large-scale ongoing reforms in Armenia.

An agreement was reached to provide the CoE Committee of Ministers with updated information regarding the discussed topics and continue cooperation in the direction of eliminating the violations recorded with ECHR judgements.
