Azerbaijan’s envoy to NATO, wife robbed at gunpoint in Brussels

YEREVAN, AUGUST 7, ARMENPRESS. Azerbaijan’s envoy to NATO Jafar Huseynzade and his wife have been robbed at gunpoint in Brussels, the Azerbaijani APA news agency reported.

Huseynzade, speaking to APA, said that he and his wife sustained 'minor injuries.'

The Azeri ambassador said they were 'attacked by 2 unknown persons in front of the house where I live in Belgium.'

'These persons forcibly entered the building when we entered the entrance, threatened us with guns and knives, and demanded that we give them our belongings.'

'They took my wife's bag and Rolex model watches from our arms and left the area, inflicting minor injuries on us. The police immediately came to the area and started investigating the incident. According to the information provided by the police, appropriate investigative measures are currently being continued in order to bring the criminals to justice,' he added.

Huseynzade said the Azeri embassy has officially requested Belgian authorities to take measures within the framework of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations to ensure the immunity of diplomats and to prevent such attacks against them.

He also commented on media reports which said that the couple's Rolex watches were particularly expensive, claiming ' It is also unfortunate that the price of our stolen watches has been exaggerated in the press to an extreme extent and many times. Although our watches are Rolex, they are metallic and simple models.'
