YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 3, ARMENPRESS. In 2023 Armenia will open diplomatic representations – embassies, consulates, diplomatic offices, in a number of countries, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan said during the debate of the 2023 state budget draft at the joint session of the parliamentary standing committees.
“In 2023 we are planning to open diplomatic representations and offices in a number of countries. At the moment we are planning to open an embassy in Uruguay and a consulate general in the city of Tabriz of Iran”, the FM said.
Iran has recently opened a consulate general in Armenia’s Kapan town, and there was an agreement long ago to open a consulate of Armenia in Tabriz.
As for the opening of the embassy in Uruguay, the FM reminded that this agreement was reached last year during the visit of the Foreign Minister of Uruguay to Armenia. “Having an embassy in Uruguay will enable us to establish separate relations also with the Latin American countries in that platform”, the FM said.
Armenia is also planning to open diplomatic offices at this moment. In Cyprus, it will operate under the Armenian Embassy in Greece, and in Serbia under the Embassy of Armenia in the Czech Republic. The minister highlighted the traditional warm relations between Armenia and Cyprus, stating that perhaps it will sound strange to many people that there hasn’t been such a representation in Cyprus yet. Mirzoyan sees prospects also for the development of the relations with Serbia. Serbia also opened an embassy in Yerevan, and Armenia as well is going to open a diplomatic office in Serbia on reciprocity basis.
“We will also open a consulate office in the Russian city of Vladikavkaz. The problems related to Upper Lars played a role in our decision”, he said.
