YEREVAN, OCTOBER 17, ARMENPRESS. The 16th Yerevan Shakespeare International Theater Festival will gather more than 250 participants and guests, including renowned artists and theater executives from Italy, Hungary, Romania, Kazakhstan, Iran, Bulgaria, Russia, Georgia and France.

The festival will kick off with the Romeo and Juliet play directed by Oleg Vinogradov at the Opera and Ballet Academic Theater in Yerevan on October 17.

“This year the festival has a clear policy,” Yerevan Shakespeare International Theater Festival Director Karo Balyan said at a press conference. “We have a very important mission to accomplish in addition to delivering a major cultural show. After September 13 [Azeri attack on Armenia], together with our main sponsor the Menq organization, we decided to have a campaign-festival to make our voices heard in the international community, therefore we are promoting the #SaveCulture #StopAggression topics.”

All proceeds from ticket sales will be directed to charity.

PPS Pressoffice DirectorDieterTopp, who has arrived from Germany and is participating in the Yerevan Shakespeare International Theater Festival for the third time, said that the #SaveCulture, #StopAggression topics were selected very accurately. “Both Shakespeare and the festival are international, and the topic is also international in these times. I think it is very important to connect the East with West through culture. It is wonderful that I can convey Shakespearean and international ideas from Yerevan to Europe thanks to the festival,” Topp said.
