Armenia expects from Russian partners effective, sincere cooperation in achieving regional peace and security – Speaker

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 11, ARMENPRESS. Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Alen Simonyan and his delegation met today with representatives of the United Russia faction of the State Duma in Moscow, at the proposal of State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin, the Armenian Parliament’s press service said.

At the beginning of the meeting Alen Simonyan said that he is expecting from Russian partners a productive and sincere cooperation on issues of achieving security and lasting peace in the region.

“Currently, we live in very worrying times which is directly affecting the countries and peoples”, he said.

In their turn the Russian partners highlighted the fact of the successful implementation of joint projects, particularly highly appreciating the mutual partnership between parliamentary friendship groups.

The situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border was discussed. The Speaker of Parliament informed that yesterday the Azerbaijani armed forces again opened fire on the border. The Armenian side introduced the Russian partners on the current situation in Jermuk resort town resulting from the latest Azerbaijani aggression, as well as the damages caused to infrastructures.

“As a ruling party, we are ready to hold discussions and consultations in different formats about the issues you voiced”, faction head Vladimir Vasiliev said.

Issues relating to the activities of Armenians living in Russia were also discussed.
