Sovereignty, Pan-Armenianism, Partnership: Armenia lays down foreign policy principles

YEREVAN, AUGUST 27, ARMENPRESS. The three fundamental principles of Armenia’s foreign policy are sovereignty, pan-Armenianism and partnership, Minister of Foreign Affairs Zohrab Mnatsakanyan said in remarks delivered at the August 27 assembly of the Ministry’s Central Apparatus and Armenian ambassadors stationed abroad.

“Today, during this conference we are clearly laying down the three fundamental principles of Armenia’s foreign policy: Sovereignty; the core of this principle is Armenia-centeredness, first of all the protection of Armenia’s state interests and all citizens of Armenia regardless of ethnic or religious affiliation. Stating the principle of sovereignty is a fundamental condition for conducting independent foreign policy. Issues in Armenia’s diplomatic activities must first of all be viewed from this very perspective. This basic principle in Armenian diplomacy is gaining more important significance in the conditions of global uncertainty of the current world order, when main challenges of primary security and development can be solved based solely on independent and sovereign decisions. Pan-Armenianism; this is both a principle and a resource. This seemingly ambitious principle is reflecting not only Armenia’s circumstance of being the axis of actions and center of Armenianness, but also the need for the Armenian diplomacy to view the Republic of Armenia, Artsakh and the global Diaspora as one single entity, with a national agenda stemming from it. I am sure that the creation of this kind of an environment of practical mutual cooperation between Armenia and the global Diaspora can provide a favorable atmosphere for the productive administration of Armenia’s foreign policy. Partnership; Armenia is ready for equal and mutually-beneficial partnership with any state. Armenia will continue working in the direction of regional peace, security and development and for this purpose cooperating with friendly states and all other partners,” Mnatsakanyan said.
