Government of Artsakh develops solar energy branch

YEREVAN, JUNE 15, ARMENPRESS. The Republic of Artsakh is taking steps for the development of solar energy in the country.

At the directive of Artsakh’s Prime Minister, the ministry of economy is studying the capabilities of the sector.

“The Prime Minister has given a clear directive to set a schedule. Our experts must study the possibilities of the solar energy sector within a 6-months period. We are currently at this stage, after completing the studies we will present specific proposals for the development of solar energy”, deputy minister of economy of Artsakh Mr. Tigran Gabrielyan told ARMENPRESS.

According to the official, Artsakh has huge potential for developing the solar energy branch.

“I find it difficult to give preliminary estimates, it would be better to wait for the completion of the studies, currently the mapping works are being done, territories are being outlined. Studies will show more specifically as to where exactly we can install solar stations. Anyhow I am convinced that the potential is huge, there are sufficient opportunities for the development of the sphere”, he said.

Mr. Gabrielyan said there are investors who are interested in this branch, and they must present them with specific calculations. Therefore, after completing the studies, the Artsakhi government will carry out targeted work with the investors.

The ministry also finds work with the population regarding the significance of solar energy to be priority.

The economy ministry official said informational works are underway in this regard. The Artsakhi PM has also tasked the ministry or urban development to study possibilities of installing solar batteries on rooftops of newly constructed buildings.

The multilateral studies will be finished September-October.

Mr. Gabrielyan said they are actively cooperating with their counterparts in Armenia, who have advanced significantly in this sector.
