New symbol of friendship between Armenians and Yezidi: Street to be named after hero Usub bek Temuryants

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 16, ARMENPRESS: At this critical moment for Yezidi people it is very important to emphasize the traditions of Armenian-Yezidi centuries-long friendship, Director of “Armenpress” news agency, historian Aram Ananyan said at the opening of the board of the street named after participant of May heroic battles Yezidi Usub bek Temuryants in Zvartnots district ofEchmiadzin.
“The world must see that our friend people are not alone at this critical point of their history. This event shows one more time that the friendship between the two peoples is based on centuries-long friendship. This is also Armenian people’s gratitude to Yezidi people for contribution of the honorable Yezidi to foundation of the Armenian statehood,” stressed Aram Ananyan.
Deputy DirectorofHistory Instituteat theNational Academy of Sciences Karen Khachatryan noted that Armenians should always be attentive to their brotherly Yezidi people and appreciate the path passed together.
Participant of 1918 May heroic battles, MP of the first republic of Armenia, outstanding military, political and national figure Usub bek Temuryants was the leader of the Transcaucasian Yezidi from 1896. During his entire activity he strengthened the friendly ties between the Armenian and Yezidi people and served the great purpose of consolidation of the Armenian statehood. He died in 1934 January 12 in Shamiram. In 2007 the school of Shamiram village was named after Usub bek Temuryants.
