Hungary denies vetoing EU’s joint statement on Nagorno-Karabakh

YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS. Hungary has denied reports claiming it blocked a joint EU statement by all 27 member states on the Azeri attack against Nagorno-Karabakh.

In a statement on social media, Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó denied the report as fake news. He said Hungary did not veto the statement.

“Yesterday several fake news reports were made around the EU statement on the situation in Karabakh. The truth is that Hungary and several other member states made comments and proposals on the joint statement, however no agreement was made, therefore the EU High Representative issued the statement on his behalf,” Szijjártó said, referring to Josep Borrell’s statement.

“Hungary’s position here is clear, peace is necessary instead of war. After many decades, the time has come to end the suffering of the people of Karabakh,” the Hungarian Foreign Minister added in the statement.
