Artsakh President recalls constitutional amendments bill citing negative reactions from public

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 23, ARMENPRESS. President of Artsakh Arayik Harutyunyan recalled the bill on amending the constitution which had earlier passed a parliamentary committee and was set to be debated at the plenary session.

Harutyunyan’s office said the reason for recalling the bill was the “various political assessments voiced during the initiation of the constitutional changes, as well as the negative reactions within the society on the bill which could become another reason for internal divide and tensions.”

“The president believes that domestic solidarity and unity are our mightiest powers and the most important guarantee in honorably withstanding existing challenges in this very difficult stage of state-building,” the presidency added.

President Harutyunyan will hold additional political consultations on the further course of constitutional amendments.
