Police launch inquiry into online footage showing alleged torture case

YEREVAN, NOVEMBER 22, ARMENPRESS. Police have launched an inquiry into a footage posted online showing an alleged torture case. The video is titled “Police officers coercing testimony with gas masks and baton”. It was posted on a YouTube channel on November 21st.

Police spokesperson Zarzand Gabrielyan told ARMENPRESS that Acting Police Chief Arman Sargsyan has ordered the Internal Security Department to carry out an inquiry regarding the footage.

Earlier Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan released a statement on the matter, saying he would request authorities to immediately launch an investigation.

It is unclear when or where the footage was filmed. The identities of the persons shown in the footage are also unknown.
