YEREVAN, AUGUST 12, ARMENPRESS. Ethiopia’s plan to plant 4 billion trees in 2019 will soon be completed, according to the country’s ambassador to Russia Alemayekhu Tegenu Argau.
The ambassador told RIA Novosti that the country has already planted 3,5 billion trees as part of the Green Legacy national campaign.
According to UN estimates, in just 100 years Ethiopia’s forests reduced from 35% to 4% of the country’s territory, and the campaign is the government’s action to tackle the issue and raise awareness.
Ordinary citizens and governmental officials, including the country’s prime minister, are involved in the campaign.
